Guest Editorial – Reckless Blessings, and poems, The Empathy of Seeing

Elena Karina Byrne, author of Squander (Omnidawn 2016), MASQUE (Tupelo Press, 2008), and The Flammable Bird,(Zoo Press 2002), former AVK Arts Executive Director and 12 year Regional Director of the Poetry Society of America, is currently a multi-media artist, freelance teacher, editor, Poetry Consultant / Moderator for The Los Angeles Times Festival of Books, Literary Programs Director for The Ruskin Art Club, and one of the final judges for the Kate/Kingsley Tufts Prizes in poetry. Since 1991 she has worked as an arts events curator with the J Paul Getty Center, MOCA, USC, Red Car Studios, the Craft and Folk Art Museum, The West Hollywood Book Fair and the MTA’s Metro Art. Elena received the 2015 Distinguished Service Award from Beyond Baroque’s Literary Arts Center. 

Her book reviews and poetry publications, among others, include the Pushcart Prize XXXIII, Best American Poetry, Poetry, Paris Review, American Poetry Review, TriQuarterly, The Kenyon Review, Denver Quarterly, Colorado Review, Ploughshares, Antioch Review, Slate, Volt, Diode, Agenda, The Dublin Review, Poetry International, Drunken Boat, Anthology of Magazine Verse & Yearbook of American Poetry, OmniVerse and Verse. Elena just completed a collection of essays entitled Voyeur Hour: Meditations on Poetry, Art and Desire.
