One of her own volumes entitled The Intimacy of the Universe focuses on the environment. She is a member of the Exiled Writers Ink group. She is a leading member of the Socialist History Society and organises joint poetry events for them at the Poetry Café. She is a trained child psychologist and has taught at the Institute of Education, London University, where she is now an associate researcher. Greta Sykes’ book Under Charred Skies follows the life of an idealistic and passionate young woman named Lene who is deeply involved in the cultural awakening of the arts and civil rights after the First World War when the fateful Nazi tyranny tears her life apart. This book shows how betrayal and desolation almost destroyed the love and solidarity enjoyed by the women at the time.
