Love-Mathematics
Crimson conic rays
Penetrate the noir soul of the long obtuse silence.
Silence, silenced by derivatives of damp swampy growth of the
Obscure thought and the hexagonal instincts,
Existent in the dark alleys.
They passively glide through the circumference of time,
Tangentially touching the sphere of infinite love.
One single night seems not enough though,
To traverse the parabolic path of the meteoric love,
And the non- geometric diffused feelings.
Moments of silence bursts into atomic fractions of pain.
Countless sleeps fall loose,
On the teary eyes of the elliptical shadows.
Long trapped, trapped in the frozen rectangle of the past
Groans my pyramid-love juxtaposed with your intersecting refusals
Blooms again and erupts my integral love for you
Breaking the matrix of deceit, hypocrisy and pretence
Few feudal hugs, nomadic kisses and algebraic expressions
Surrender one by one
To the hypotenuse of the triangle of mathematical love.

Debarati Bhattacharyya is an Indian bi-lingual poet from Kolkata living in Scotland being equally fluid in both the languages, English and Bengali. She also has translation work in Hindi and English to her credit. Debarati has authored five poetry books in Bengali and a rhyme book for children. Her latest collections of contemporary poetry, Wada Phir Wohi and Srabone Agun, were published and released in 2020 in Kolkata International Book fair and Dhaka Ekushe Boi Mela, respectively. Her English poems have been anthologised by many publication houses globally. She was awarded the ‘Amitesh Maity Smith Puroshkar 2015’ for promising poets for her debut collection. One of her contemporary poems made a successful entry in a visual poetry project produced by Avant-Garde Productions, Dhaka. Debarati’s poems in English, Bengali and Hindi are regularly published in national dailies in India, Bangladesh and on online platforms in UK, Canada, Nepal, China, and other countries. She has also written the lyrics of some Bengali modern songs. Debarati is a science and law graduate from University of Calcutta, India and a postgraduate in Business and Human Rights law from University of Dundee, UK.
