Kaleidoscopic Kyoto, poem by Paris Rosemont.

Kaleidoscopic Kyoto

(i) Shibazakura
Carpeting hillsides
Vibrant fuchsia pop moss phlox
Cherry blossom lawn
(ii) Maiko makeover
Kimono for hire
Please choose ‘wide’ size. Foreigners
Are abundant blooms
(iii) Camel toed
Cobblestone laneways
Blind date with zōri virgins
Clomping like heifers
(iv) Captured
Geishas in the wild
Tourists clamour for a snap
Okiya [escape]
(v) After the dust settles
Bucket list complete
Kyoto loosens her robe
To hidden delights
(vi) Pink martini
In the springtime breeze
Branches are shaken—people stirred
This is 42*
* In The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, Douglas Adams
proclaimed: ‘the meaning of life, the universe, and everything is 42’
