Brushstrokes Of Colour, poems by Maria Miraglia.
Brushstrokes Of Colour
Time has tinted your hair white
slowed your steps
but it has not extinguished
your longing for love
and still you remain waiting
for what you think
life has not given you
Your stubbornness makes me angry
your refusal to take steps
towards your destiny
your vocation for solitude
outrages me
deaf to the calls of life
forgotten by days
and nights
Come out of your limbo
from those ancient
and worn-out walls
give yourself to life
embrace its joys
but also its pain
brushstrokes of colour
on the canvas of time
Life And Death
I crossed time
through mists of cold winters
and sun-drenched mornings
observed the blue skies
where stars smiled at each other
from afar
saw flocks of birds arrive
from distant lands
and depart when the leaves
began to fall
admired red sunsets
and pearly sunrises
quickly following each other
and get lost
in the night of time
New lives have crowded
the streets of the world
like multicoloured flowers
blooming in spring
and many more peter out their vital spark
like glowing candles
oblivious to their consumption
in the very act of their burning
How many more seasons will come
Of how many of them
will I still admire the colours
and smell the scent
until the Angel of Death comes
and snatches me from life
It’s been a long time
since his journey began
with my first cry
in the welcoming arms
of my mother
but
will his step be slow
or will he ride fast
on his black steed
Monologue
The sea is quiet
motionless as a flat table
painted in azure
the sky mirroring in it
while a flock of birds flies away
in search of the warm
The air is fresh and
the twilight draws
an evening rainbow
in the sky with shades
of white and grey
An unusual silence can be heard
not even the last yellow leaves
move from their sad branches
And me with my Self
asking thousands of questions
I can give no answers to
The whys of the days
some sad
others merry and happy
as the changing of the seasons
Is fate the absolute master
of my life
or it all depends on me
is it up to us to pursue our dreams
or accept everything just as it is
Fading the dimension of my identity
detached from all the rest
almost melting
into the uniqueness of the cosmos
so deep the thought
of all that may be beyond
the human knowledge
am I at least a meaningful tiny thing
in the infinite space
My inner monologue lasts
for a long while
a strange almost frightening feeling
fills my whole being
The colours of the late afternoon
have turned dark and
the first drops of rain are falling down
My hair wet and my face too
I give a last look at the scenery around
and go
